Frequently Asked Questions
Your Visit & What to Expect
-
During your first visit, you’ll be asked to complete an intake and consent form if you haven’t already done so. Before your treatment begins, we’ll take time to discuss your goals, areas you’d like treated, preferred pressure, and any medical conditions, injuries, recent surgeries, or allergies.
For return visits, we’ll check in on how your last treatment felt, any effects you noticed, and how you’d like this session to go. You’re always free to adjust pressure, change focus areas, or shift goals from one visit to the next. Each session is guided by your needs, and you have complete freedom in deciding how your treatment evolves.
-
You’re welcome to wear whatever feels most comfortable for you. You may choose to keep your clothing on, in which case no oil or gel will be used. If you prefer, you may also undress to your comfort level, including down to your underwear.
At all times, you will be fully and securely draped with a sheet, with only the area being treated exposed. Your comfort, privacy, and boundaries are always respected.
-
If you arrive late, your session will still end at the originally scheduled time to accommodate other clients. The full session fee will still apply. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to ensure you receive the full duration of your treatment.
Health & Safety
-
If you're feeling sick, it's best to reschedule your massage. Receiving a massage while ill can worsen symptoms, delay recovery, and put your therapist and other clients at risk. Please wait until you're fully recovered before booking your appointment.
-
Please inform your therapist of any open wounds, rashes, infections, or skin conditions before your session. For safety and hygiene reasons, affected areas will be avoided or treatment may be modified. In some cases, rescheduling may be recommended until the area has fully healed. Your comfort and safety are always our priority.
-
In many cases, massage therapy can be beneficial after surgery or with a recent injury, but timing and approach are important. Please inform your therapist of any recent surgeries or injuries before your appointment. Depending on the situation, treatment may be modified, focused on surrounding areas, or postponed to ensure your safety.
If you’ve had recent surgery, complications, or are unsure whether massage is appropriate, we recommend receiving clearance from your medical provider prior to booking.
Booking, Cancellations & Scheduling
-
We understand that unexpected situations arise, and schedules may change. However, we kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
When you book an appointment, that time is reserved exclusively for you. Last-minute cancellations or no-shows not only impact your treatment plan but also prevent another client from receiving care during that time. To respect the time of both the practitioner and other clients:
• First-time cancellations or no shows will be waived as a courtesy
• Moving forward, a 50% fee of the appointment cost will be charged for late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) or no shows
• Please note that repeated no-shows may result in the loss of booking privileges
This policy ensures that we can continue to provide high-quality care while valuing the time and commitment of both our therapists and clients. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
-
You can cancel or reschedule by calling, emailing, or using our online booking system (if more than 24 hours). If you need to cancel last-minute due to an emergency, please contact us as soon as possible.
-
Same-day appointments may be available, but we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time.
-
Yes. If your preferred time isn’t available, you’re welcome to join our waitlist. Should an appointment open up, we’ll reach out to you as soon as possible. Availability is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Insurance, Direct Billing & Payments
-
Yes! We offer direct billing for most insurance providers as a free service to make healthcare more accessible. However, please note that claims may sometimes be rejected or only partially covered–we have no way of determining this in advance. If this happens, the client will be responsible for paying the full amount upfront. We will provide a receipt that you can use to submit a claim to your insurance.
-
Our clinic does not require a doctor’s referral for massage therapy. However, some insurance companies may require a doctor’s prescription for reimbursement. It is the client’s responsibility to check with their insurance provider before their appointment to ensure their claim will be covered. If a prescription is required but not provided, the claim may not go through for direct billing, and the client will need to pay upfront.
-
All services offered at Soulace Massage Studio are performed by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Whether your session is covered by insurance depends on what is included in your individual extended health benefits plan. We recommend checking your coverage before booking.
-
We primarily operate as a cashless studio. We accept credit and debit payments, as well as direct billing for insurance where applicable. Cash is also accepted; however, please note that we are unable to provide change.
Pregnancy & Postnatal Massage
-
Yes! Prenatal massage is safe and beneficial during pregnancy. However:
• During the first trimester, direct abdominal massage is avoided
• Clients will be positioned comfortably on their side with bolsters for support
• If you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, please consult your doctor before booking
-
Postnatal massage is recommended after delivery, but if you had a C-section, you should wait at least 6 weeks or get clearance from your medical doctor before receiving treatment.
